University of Rawalpindi celebrated the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in a specific call to address the increasing challenge of digital violence against women and girls. The topic of this year was “UNITE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”, which made the theme of the discussion online harassment, cyberstalking, privacy breaches, and the non-consensual use of digital content: the phenomenon that is quickly gaining momentum in the Pakistani digital environment.
The Rector: Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, faculty members, and student representatives discussed the systematic gaps that enable the digital abuse persistence. The discussion highlighted the necessity of powerful legislation, advanced digital literacy, and accessible reporting systems. Participants emphasized that digital security is a novel component of gender equality, which should be integrated into the national policy and community
UoR strengthen its dedication further to create safer online spaces using awareness campaigns, policy debates, and outreach to students, faculty, and other stakeholders. The event supported the national initiatives of the Parliamentarians Commission on Human Rights (PCHR), and this reinforcing a common agenda; that women and girls should not fear the violence and participate in digital and physical spaces freely. The campaign was a clear reminder that internet misuse should be fought to ensure that human rights are promoted and SDGs are met.
